We did it, folks — a unanimous vote to fund the Trust
We are thrilled to share a HUGE win with you!
Last night, Greenville County Council showed their commitment to conservation and historic preservation by unanimously voting to commit $2 million over the next two years to the Greenville County Historic and Natural Resources Trust.
Council unanimously adopted the FY2022-2023 budget with $1 million included for the Trust and reconsidered and passed the FY2021-2022 budget with an additional $1 million Trust commitment. We are extremely grateful to each and every Council member for voting YES to Fund the Trust.
This historic success could not have happened without your help. Your calls, emails, and social posts turned Council around on this issue. Thank you so much to everyone who attended the meeting.
The Greenville County Historic and Natural Resources Trust will be overseen by a 12-member council-appointed, volunteer Board and serves as a funding resource for eligible local landowners, agencies, governments, and nonprofits to protect land and historic resources in Greenville County. Greenville County joins Oconee, Beaufort, and Charleston counties in committing to protect critical places with county programs.
Please take five minutes to call, email, or send a handwritten note to County Council members to thank them for listening to the community and voting to support this important program. Their Council Contact info is listed below.
The Greenville Coalition for Greenspace is just getting started. We will continue to advocate on behalf of private and public initiatives to protect more historic and natural resources in Greenville County. If you know of any businesses, corporations, nonprofits, economic development interests, or private citizens who would like to join the coalition, please send them to GreenvilleForGreenspace.com to sign up.
Once again, thank you. With your help, we will continue to work towards permanently protecting more of Greenville’s natural and historic assets for residents, visitors, and future generations.
Thank your County Council member!
